Privacy policy
This page explains what this website collects, what it deliberately does not collect, what the plea tool does with what you type (nothing, it stays in your browser), and how to have your information removed. If you would rather not put anything in writing at all, call us instead.
This policy was last updated on September 15, 2026.
This site is published by Usher Law Group, P.C., 1600 Sheepshead Bay Rd, Suite 203, Brooklyn, NY 11235. You can reach us at (718) 484-7510 or info@usherlegal.com.
The people who read this site often have a lot at stake. Many of you have a criminal case open right now, and you have every reason to be careful about what you write down and where you write it. So this policy is written plainly, and the short version is this: the plea tool sends nothing anywhere, we collect the minimum we need to call you back, we never ask for your A-number on this website, and you can have your information deleted by sending one email.
The plea tool
The plea consequences tool on this site runs entirely in your browser. The page downloads the rule table along with the rest of the page, and everything after that, every category you pick, every sentence you enter, every prior you add, is worked out on your own device. Nothing you enter is sent to us, and nothing is stored anywhere: not on our server, not in a cookie, not in your browser's local storage. Reloading the page clears it. Closing the tab clears it.
The "copy summary" button only copies text to your clipboard, so that you can paste it into an email, a note, or the box on our consultation form if you choose to. It does not transmit anything. Until you paste that summary somewhere yourself, it exists only on your device.
There is no analytics on the tool page. No script on that page records which categories are chosen, how often the tool is run, or what it shows. A person with a pending criminal case can use the tool without creating a record anywhere, and that is by design.
What the intake form collects
The plea review form on this site asks for seven things:
- Your name, or whatever name you want us to use
- A way to reach you: a phone number, an email address, or both
- The language you want us to call you in
- Where the criminal case is: charged, offer on the table, already pleaded, in removal proceedings, or someone detained
- Which criminal court has the case, if you know
- Your next court date, if you have one, so we can tell you how much time there is
- A free-text description of the charge and the plea, in your own words, into which you may paste the summary the plea tool copied for you
That is all. There is no field for a date of birth, an address, a passport number, an immigration status history, a docket number, or a family member's information. If you type something into the free-text box, we receive it, so type only what you are comfortable sending.
Do not send us your A-number through this website
This site never asks for an alien registration number (an A-number), and you should never put one in this form, in a contact email, or in any other unencrypted web form, on our site or anyone else's. The same goes for anything you consider sensitive: the details of the arrest, the names of other people involved, or anything you have not told your criminal lawyer. Tell us those things by phone, or in person, or after we have a signed retainer and a secure way to exchange documents. The charge, the offer and your status are enough for us to tell you whether we can help.
Form submissions are not privileged until you are a client
Attorney-client privilege protects communications with a lawyer who represents you. Sending a web form does not make us your lawyers. Until we and you sign a written retainer agreement, what you send through this site is not a privileged communication. We still treat it as confidential as a matter of professional practice, and we do not share it, but the legal protection is different and you should know that before you write, especially while a criminal case is open.
We also cannot promise that email or a web form is a secure channel. Email travels across networks we do not control, and a shared phone or computer can be read by whoever else uses it.
Server logs
Like nearly every website, the server that delivers these pages keeps a short technical log of requests. A log entry typically records an IP address, a timestamp, the page requested, the browser and operating system reported by your device, and the page you came from, if any. We use these logs to keep the site working and to see which pages are being read. We do not use them to build a profile of you, and we do not try to identify individual visitors from them. A log entry for the tool page records that the page was requested; it does not and cannot record what you did on it.
Cookies
This site sets one cookie of its own: a language-preference cookie, which records the language you picked in the language selector so the machine translation stays on as you move between pages. If you never touch the language selector, that cookie is never set. You can delete it at any time in your browser settings, and the site will go back to English.
There are no advertising cookies on this site. No retargeting pixels, no social media tracking pixels, no third-party ad networks. We do not run advertising here, and we do not let anyone else run it here either.
The machine translation feature is provided by Google. When it runs, your browser contacts Google's servers, and Google's own privacy terms apply to that exchange. If you would rather not involve a third party, read the site in English and do not use the language selector. The tool's labels translate with the page; what you enter in the tool is not sent to the translation service.
Analytics
As of the date at the top of this page, no analytics service is configured on this site. There is no Google Analytics tag, no Plausible script, and no equivalent, on any page. If we add one later, we will update this policy first and say which service it is and what it records, and it will not run on the tool page.
We do not sell your information
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your information with lead generators, marketing companies, data brokers, or other law firms. We do not participate in any referral network that buys intake data. What you send us goes to the attorneys and staff at this firm and nowhere else.
There are two narrow exceptions: we use ordinary business vendors such as an email provider and a web host, who necessarily handle data in the course of delivering their service, and we will disclose information if a court order or a law requires it. If we ever receive a demand for information about a visitor or a client, we will resist it to the extent the law allows, and we will tell the person affected unless we are legally barred from doing so.
How to have your information deleted
Email info@usherlegal.com and ask us to delete what you sent. Tell us the name and the phone number or email address you used, so we can find the right record. We will delete it and confirm to you in writing.
There are two limits. If we already represent you, we keep your file for as long as the rules governing attorney files require, because that record protects you as much as it protects us. And if a matter is in active litigation, we may be obligated to preserve material until that ends. Outside those situations, an inquiry that did not become a case gets deleted on request, and we do not keep it to market to you.
Children
This site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13 through this website. Minors can face criminal charges and immigration consequences, and we do advise on those cases, but the intake conversation happens with a parent, a legal guardian, or the minor's defense lawyer, not through a web form filled out by a child. If you believe a child sent us information through this site, email us and we will delete it.
Links to other sites
We link out to government sources (USCIS, EOIR, the Federal Register, the courts, the state legislatures) and to our firm's other websites. Once you follow a link off this site, this policy stops applying and the other site's policy takes over. We do not control what those sites collect. Government websites in particular may log your visit, and that is worth knowing before you check a case status on a device you share.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we handle it, we will change this page and update the date at the top. Material changes get a plain statement of what changed, not a silent edit. If the tool ever stops working entirely in the browser, that is a material change and it will be stated here.
If you would rather not write anything down, call us
Some of the people who read this site are being watched, or believe they are, by a government, a prosecutor's office, a family member or an employer. If that is your situation, do not use the form. Call (718) 484-7510 from a phone you trust, or come to the Brooklyn office. A phone call leaves less behind than a web form, and we can tell you just as much in ten minutes on the phone as we can from anything you type here.
If you are worried about someone reading your browser history, most browsers have a private window, and you can clear history after you read. If you share a device with the person you are afraid of, use a library computer or a friend's phone. The tool works the same way on any of them and leaves nothing behind when the page is closed.
